I hope you all had a great start to 2013!
Did you have a fun celebration on New Year’s Eve? A lavish dinner? A few glasses of Champagne?
As I mentioned in a post I published two days ago, I celebrated New Year’s Eve at my favorite vegetarian restaurant in Vienna: Tian.
Tian is a fine-dining restaurant in Vienna’s inner district and is open from Monday to Saturday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I went there a few times during my one-year stay in the Austrian capital, and was very happy to be back for a nine-course Venetian dinner to celebrate what has been an amazing year!
My (non-veggie) friend and I arrived at 7:30 pm and were greeted with a tasty lemon aperitif.
There was also some finger food to start the evening with. I tried the pumpernickel bread with Cheddar cheese and butter, as well as the avocado crostini.
And then it was time to take a seat at our table, as dinner was about to be served. We ordered two glasses of Foradori red wine.
One — Cauliflower crème brûlée
Two — Pumpkin, blueberries, and vegetables
Three — Potato salad 2.1
Four — Waldorf salad with celery soup
Five — White polenta
Six — Grapefruit and gin sorbet
Seven — Winter forest with truffles
Eight — Chicory with goat cheese and Perigord truffle
Nine — Coffee amaretti with passion fruit
As we were about to leave, the waiter brought over a goodbye treat to our table: Kir Royale and awesomely delicious chocolate pralines.
I had a very nice evening and really enjoyed the food. One of my new year’s resolutions is to cook more creative dishes at home, and the meal at Tian gave me a few good ideas… I will keep you all posted!
Happy new year!

What a delicious way to start the New Year!
It was very delicious, indeed! 🙂
Great post, and your photos are fabulous! Looks like you had a lot of different things to try. I will have to add this restaurant to my Vienna list.
Thank you!
This is definitely a restaurant I would recommend – even if you’re not a vegetarian!
A very Happy New Year to you! The meal looks exquisite! What interesting food combinations…. I love the grapefruit gin combo, for instance. I just might try that in a cocktail!
Thank you, Jeanette! That was a great meal, indeed 🙂
Wow! What an amazing meal! I love those lingering multi course dining experiences…. so nice, especially on New Years! I personally hung around the house in my fluffy Christmas bathrobe and woke Paul to ring in the new year but wish I’d done something more like this!
Multi-course gourmet dinners are a good idea on a special occasion like NYE, aren’t they?
You can then indulge without feeling guilty 😉
OMG I’m pre-dinner looking at this.. That polenta, those truffles… Hmmm. And people have the nerve to ask vegetarians what we eat. 😉 We’ll definitely have to dine together in Toronto! Happy foodie travels in 2013. 🙂
We definitely will, Pola!
Happy foodie travels in 2013 to you! 🙂
